Boot & Shoe Trades Journal June 26th1914
Geo. Selwood and Co

This firm was established in the year 1899, and business first commenced in the back premises of Mr. G. Selwood's private residence, when boots were closed, made, and finished in the homes of the workpeople. Being established on the only sound business principle of giving good honest value for money, the business soon outgrew the small accommodation, and a new factory was erected in the Harboro’-road in the year 1893, where the business continued to flourish. In 1893 Mr. F. J. Sharwood came into the firm, and, owing to further increased business a large addition to the building, capable of doubling the output had to be resorted to, and in the year 1910 further progress made it necessary to open a branch factory at Higham Ferrers. The partnership was added to by the addition of Mr. H. B. Selwood (only son of the senior partner) in the year 1909, and the still further growth of the business has necessitated the erection of a new modern one-floor factory in the Harboro’-road, which will be fitted throughout with the most up-to-date machinery and all modern appliances for the making of good, solid, up-to-date footwear. The new building is now nearing completion, and, it will be ready for occupation at August. Mr. F. Sharwood, nephew of the senior partner, and late manager of the Higham Fererrs branch has been appointed representative throughout England, and is at all times at the service of the wholesale buyers.
