Rushden Echo, 13th April 1908, transcribed by Kay Collins
Serious Accident

On Monday a man named York, residing in Cromwell-road, Rushden, had a narrow escape in the factory of Mr. B. Ladds, boot manufacturer. York was working the lift, and when looking in the lift he unwittingly pulled the chain, setting it in motion. He caught his head between the lift and the door, but had the presence of mind to stop the chain. When got out he was attended by ambulance men, and Dr. Baker was sent for. No bones were broken, but the back and front of his neck and head were much bruised. He was conveyed home in the ambulance litter.
