Rushden Employees Fund

The Argus 27th May 1898, transcribed by Kay Collins

Local Notes

We must congratulate the Committee of the Rushden Employees Fund on the success which attended their first collection this month. The object of the movement is to benefit the funds of the Nursing Association, an institution which has done and is doing incalculable good to the poorer classes in the town. So great have been the demands upon the Association that it was found necessary to appoint a second nurse, and in order to meet the additional expense incurred a monthly factory collection was inaugurated in order that many of those who directly benefitted from the Association might be able to show their practical sympathy with the work. The first penny collection has resulted in £10 15s. 8d. being raised up to the present time, but besides this there are subscriptions from other factories to come in, so that the total amount can be placed at £12.
