The Coxton Shoe Co.

Mr T W Cox
Mr C J Newton

Trademark - Coxton Shoes

The Coxton Shoe Co., deriving its name from the combination of the names of the Partners Cox and (New)ton was established in premises situate on the outskirts of the town, but it was speedily necessary owing to pressure of business to remove to more commodious premises in centre of the town within 18 months of commencement.

The firm before the War was noted for the High tone of their footwear, being facsimile of Northampton manufacture at a lower price, and this was not surprising when one considers that the Partners both served their apprenticeship with two of the most noted firms of shoe manufacturers in Northampton.

At the commencement of the War, fully realising the needs of the Allies, arrangements were made to reserve part of the works for the manufacture of Army boots, but for many months owing to the severe demands of the British Government it has been found necessary to concentrate all efforts of the works to Government wants only. This firm has already supplied to the Allied Governments some hundreds of Thousand pairs of footwear.

In normal times The Coxton Shoe Co. manufacture a fine medium grade footwear and do a very extensive Home Trade and have connections abroad which are continually growing.
