This firm was founded by the late Mr. William Claridge in 1865 and since his death in 1891 has been successfully carried on by the present partners, Mr. John Claridge J.P., and Mr. Charles Claridge. They are well known as the makers of sound, reliable footwear, and the full range embraces practically every kind of boot in Welted M.S. and F.S. in Youths’ and Men’s. In these goods they have a splendid reputation and are amongst the foremost firms in the country.
Their methods are up-to-date and the business conducted on those honourable lines one expects from a firm of this character. The house of Claridge has been a strength to the district in keeping up the quality of the productions and making such lines as do credit to the town and a satisfaction to purchasers. In home or export goods they may be with safety entrusted to prepare honest footwear at reasonable prices. The late Mr. Claridge interested himself in the affairs of the town and in this he is followed by his son, Mr. John, who is keen on all that appertains to Rushden, and prepared to sacrifice his time and means in furthering the interests of his native place. This he has done in no stinted measure and as some recompense for services rendered, he has been made a Justice of the Peace for Northamptonshire, and represents Rushden on the Northamptonshire County Council. In his early days he was a prominent cricketer and is a very warm supporter of the County Club. Mr. Charles Claridge also takes a keen interest in sport, and in former days was a very good cricketer. He was one of the stalwarts of Association football, and was for many years a County player and Secretary of the County Association. He finds little time now for such pastimes as he is actively engaged controlling the business.
The firm are making large quantities of boots for the British and Allied Governments at the present time, and giving, it is needless to say, every satisfaction.
