Amalgamated Society of Leather Workers

Rushden Echo, 28th January 1944, transcribed by Peter Brown

Leather Workers-A balance of more than £1,000 was reported at the annual meeting of the Rushden Branch Amalgamated Society of Leather Workers, which was held at the Trades Club on Wednesday. Sick pay during the year amounted to £139. When the secretary (Mr Wills) reported on wages negotiations in the industry, great disappointment was expressed at the failure of the special meeting which, although under an independent chairman, failed to make a decision and had to pass the question on to arbitration. The "iron ration” clothing coupon scheme for “wet” workers was explained, and Mr Horn gave a report as Trades Council delegate. Mr A. Holton was elected to the chair in succession to Mr G Wadsworth, and several new committee members were appointed.
