| Interesting Wedding—A very pretty wedding of considerable local interest took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Park-road Baptist Church, when the Rev. R. C. Law conducted the marriage ceremony between Miss Doris Pauline Overton Dickens, eldest daughter of the late Mr. Arthur Hadley Dickens and Mrs. Dickens, of 102 Wellingborough-road, Rushden, and Mr. Joseph Arthur York, of Rushden, Both the bride and bridegroom are teachers in the Sunday School and members of the choir of the Park-road Baptist Church, and the bridegroom is an old soldier, having been discharged from the Coldstream Guards about 12 months ago, after being severely wounded. The bride was given away by her mother, and Mr. Jack Young, of Leicester, friend of the bridegroom, was the best man. The bridesmaids were Miss Marie Kathleen Dickens (sister of the bride) and Miss Florence Houghton (cousin of the bridegroom), and Mr. E. L. Brightwell presided at the organ. The hymns were “The Voice that breathed o’er Eden” and “O Love Divine and Golden,” and the organist played the “Wedding March.” The bride was charmingly dressed in ivory crepe-de-chine, trimmed with pearls, with bridal veil, kindly lent by a friend, and a wreath of orange blossom, and she carried a beautiful bouquet of white lilies, roses, and narcissi, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridesmaids were prettily attired in blue crepe-de-chine, with hats to match, and carried bouquets of narcissi and primroses, the gifts of the bridegroom. They also wore strings of pearls given by the bridegroom. The reception was held at the Moor-road Kindergarten School. The newly-wedded couple received a large number of useful and handsome presents. They left by the 7.40p.m. train for London, where the honeymoon is to be spent, the bride’s travelling dress being of electric blue, with hat to match. On their return Mr. and Mrs. York will reside at 119 Washbrook-road, Rushden. |
