War Workers Wed

A charming wedding of considerable interest to Rushden and district was solemnised on Thursday at St. Mary’s Parish Church, the contracting parties being Miss E. (Diana) Neville, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Neville, of 75, Robinson Road, Rushden, and Q.M.S. Edgar Wright 1/4^th Northants Regiment, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Wright, 18 Midland Road, Rushden. The bridegroom was representing Messrs. Phipps and Co., Northampton in Germany, when the war broke out and was among the last Englishmen to leave the enemy country. He joined up soon after his return to England and has seen service in Egypt, Palestine and Syria. The bride has been an active worker for the Red Cross and other charitable and social causes.

The ceremony was performed by the Rector, the Rev. Percy Robson, and was attended by many well-wishes of the happy pair. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked very beautiful and dainty in a charming confection of ivory georgette decorated with a panel of pearls on silk ninon. She wore a bridal veil and orange blossom, kindly lent by Mrs. H. Martin, a friend of the bride and carried some beautiful lilies and carnations. The attendants were Miss K. Lovell (Irthlingborough) and little Miss Winnie Okins (Rushden). The former was gracefully gowned in fawn crepe de chine, and wore a hat to match, and Miss Winnie Okins looked very pretty in pale blue crepe de chine. Both carried lovely pink and white carnations and wore gold bracelets, the gift of the groom. Mr. Enos Smith, the organist played the Wedding March and the hymn “The voice that breathed o’er Eden”.

Q.M.S. Harold Markham, 1/4^th Northants Regiment, who had been campaigning with the groom, acted as best man. Subsequently a reception was held at the Waverley Hotel, where the happy pair were given very hearty good wishes and sent off for their honeymoon at Bournemouth. The bride’s travelling costume was of stone coloured gabardine, with hat to match. Among the many beautiful and costly gifts were presents from the Rushden Red Cross Committee and Messrs. Phipps and Co. Northampton.
