The marriage was solemnised at the Independent Wesleyan Church, Rushden, on Tuesday, of Miss Elsie Elizabeth Linnell, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Linnell, of 13, Manton-road, Rushden, and Pte. Harry Wilfred West, of the Northants Regiment, fifth son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan West, of Wymington. The Rev. C. J. Keeler officiated.
The bride was given away by her father, and wore an effective brown costume with hat to match. She carried a white prayer book, the gift of her mother. Two bridesmaids were in attendance, viz., Miss Winifred Linnell (sister of the bride) and Miss Frances Slough (friend of the bride), both of whom were fashionably costumed in brown, with hats to match. Their jewellery consisted of gold brooches, the gifts of the bridegroom. The duties of best man were ably carried out by Pte. Oliver Russel West, of the Beds Regiment (brother of the bridegroom).
After the ceremony a reception was held at the bride’s home, the guests including John Seddon, A.B. (brother-in-law of the bridegroom), of H.M.S.—, who is home on leave. Pte. and Mrs. West received many useful wedding gifts.
The bridegroom who is home on leave from France, where he has been altogether over three years, has been once wounded, viz., at the Battle of Aubers Ridge, on May 9th, 1915. Before enlistment, 3½ years ago, he was well known as a footballer and cricketer at Wymington.
Six other brothers have served with His Majesty’s Forces, two having been killed, and one other missing.
The bride’s brother, Pte. George Henry Linnell, R.G.A., is in Italy, having served altogether over two years with the Colours.
