Wedding Party on Fire Engine A fireman and a Girl Guide officer were married on Saturday at St. Peter's Church, Rushden, and drove to their reception on a fire engine. The bridegroom was Mr. Frank William Charles Tassell, a member of the Rushden Fire Brigade, and the bride Miss Mary Eileen Edmunds, a lieutenant of the Rushden St. Peter's Girl Guides. Leaving the church after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Tassell and their attendants passed through a guard of honour formed by Guiders, and took their places on the fire engine, which was decked with white ribbon.

The bridegroom was Mr Frank William Charles Tassell, only son of Mr and Mrs F Tassell, of Ventnor House, Alfred Street, Rushden, and the bride Miss Mary Ellen Edmunds, third daughter of Mr and Mrs J Edmunds, of 8, Montague street, Rushden. The Rev P Barwell Spriggs officiated.

The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr F Edmunds, was dressed in satin beaute with shoes to match and a veil wreathed in orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of pink rose buds. The bridesmaids were Miss L Edmunds (sister of the bride), Miss L Marriott (friend of the bride), and Miss J Westley (cousin of the bridegroom). They all wore floral ninon dresses and lace picture hats, and they carried cream rosebuds and scabious. They wore necklets of brilliants given by the bridegroom. Mr Arthur Bailey, friend of the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr D Panter was at the organ.

As the couple left the church they passed through a guard of honour formed by the 1st Rushden St Peter’s Girl Guides, in which the bride is a lieutenant. The bridegroom is a member of the Rushden Fire Brigade, and his colleagues were waiting with a fire engine, on which the whole bridal party drove away to the Masonic Hall for the reception.
