Miss Elinor R. Short, the youngest daughter of Mrs R Short, and the late Mr F T Short of 96 Wellingborough-road, Rushden, a former Carnival Queen attendant for the town, was the bride of an American at Wellingborough on Thursday week. The groom, Cpl. Richard R. Smith, is the younger son of Mrs E Smith and the late Mr E. Smith, of Natrona Heights, Pittsburgh, Pa, USA.
The bride's attire was a silver and delphinium blue brocade dress with brown accessories. She had an Egyptian handbag, a gift from her brother, serving abroad, and a cameo locket, the gift of the bride-groom's mother. Both she and her sister Miss Margaret Short, who attended her, wore a corsage of pink carnations and fern.
S Sgt. H. W. Stewart, a friend of the bridegroom, carried out the duties of best man.
A reception followed at the bride's home and the wedding cake was given by a friend. Presents received by the couple included three cheques. For the duration of the war their home will be at 96, Wellingborough road; afterwards they will reside at Pittsburgh.
