| A quiet but pretty wedding took place at St. Mary’s Church, Rushden, on Saturday, the contracting parties being Miss Mabel Caroline Love (daughter of Mrs. H. Roe by a former marriage and step-daughter of Mr. H. Roe) and Mr. Archie Shortland, youngest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. John Shortland, of Harrowden House, Rushden. The Rev. W. Pelham officiated. The bride, who was given away by Mr. Roe, was attired in a nigger brown costume with a hat to match, trimmed with an ostrich plume. She carried a beautiful bouquet of lilies and carnations. She was attended by two bridesmaids – Miss Laura Roe, sister of the bride, and Miss Ethel Shortland, niece of the bridegroom, the former being attired in a fawn costume with a nigger brown hat, the latter in a grey costume with a black and white hat; each carried bouquets of pink carnations and white chrysanthemums. Mr. Arthur Shortland, brother of the bridegroom, was the best man. A reception was afterwards held at the home of the bride’s parents, where between 30 and 40 guests were entertained. Later in the day the happy couple left for Cambridge, where a short honeymoon was spent. Many good and useful presents were received. |
