Rushden Echo and Argus, 9th May 1947, transcribed by Kay Collins
'Russians' Meet in Australia
Further news of ex-Rushden people in Australia is contained in a letter from Mr. Harry Brice, of Brisbane, to Miss Jessie Bird, of 27, St. Peter's-avenue, Rushden.

Mr. Brice mentions that he recently met Mr. Fred Attley (formerly of Pemberton-street) after 35 years, and that Mr. Attley is now manager of one of the biggest boot and shoe factories in Sydney.

The writer asks for information about Dick Bonner, Johnny Barker and Ern Baldrey—members of "Coster's Wedding" group which used to be popular at Rushden fancy dress parades.

In conclusion, Mr. Brice writes: "We in Australia do not know how to appreciate our climate and living standards until we hear about terrible conditions under which you people in England have to live. I understand many, many thousands are coming to Australia. They will find this country a paradise."
