Rushden Echo, 14th December 1928, transcribed by Kay Collins

Rice – Shortland

The wedding took place happily at St. Mary’s Church, Rushden on Saturday, of Miss Edna May Shortland, of 20 Windmill-road, Rushden, eldest daughter of Mr. J. and the late Mrs. Shortland, to Mr. Jack Rice, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rice, of 24 Marshalls-road, Raunds. The Rev. G. Hatt Lipscomb (curate) officiated. Mr. Shortland gave his daughter away. The bride was prettily attired in a beige georgette and lace dress and black hat. She carried a bouquet of white lilies and carnations. Mr. H. R. Shortland, brother of the bride, officiated as best man. A reception was afterwards held at the bride’s home. There were some choice gifts, including a kerb companion set from the bride’s fellow workers at the C.W.S. Boot Factory, Rushden, and a present from Messrs. Coggins’ employees, Raunds. Messrs. Wadsworth Bros., of Rushden, supplied the motors.
