The wedding of Mr. George C. Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Parker, of 21, Montague-street, Rushden to Miss Clarice Button, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Payne, of 23 Grove-street, Rushden, took place in the Park-road Wesleyan Church, Rushden, on Monday afternoon. The ceremony, which was conducted by the Rev. B. Barker, was choral, the hymns sung being:- “The Voice that breathed o’er Eden,” and “Oh perfect love,” Mr. C. Wooding (cousin of the bridegroom) presiding at the organ. Mr. Wooding, as the bride and bridegroom were leaving the church played Mendelssohn’s Wedding March. The members of the choir were in attendance.
The bride, who was given away by her step-father, was attired in cream cashmere, trimmed with satin, silk braid, and silk insertion, and carried a shower bouquet, the gift of the bridegroom. There were four bridesmaids - Miss Florrie Button (sister of the bride), Miss Nellie Groome (cousin of the bride), Miss Eva Payne (sister of the bride), and Miss Dorothy Allen (niece of the bridegroom). The Misses Button and Groome wore dresses of blue velvetine, with picture hats, and wore sprays, the gifts of the bridegroom, while Miss Payne and Miss Allen were dressed in white silk, with silk hats to match, and carried white bouquets, gifts of the bridegroom. Mr. S. Parker (brother of the bridegroom) acted as best man. Both the bride and bridegroom are well-known as members of the Park-road Wesleyan Church Choir.
A reception was held at the B.W.T.A. Hall, between 60 and 70 guests being present. Programme :- Pianoforte overture, Miss N. Groome: song, Stone cracker John, Mr. F. Parker; song, Mary of Argyle, Mrs. Harry Allen; song, The Drum Major (encore, My dreams), Mr. F. Shortland; recitation, Mr. G. W. Button; song, Thora, Mr. W. Smith; song, When the heart is young, Mrs. G. C. Parker; song, Blue-eyed Nancy, Mr. H. D. Whitworth; song, Mr. J. G. Parker; duet, Excelsior, Messrs. W. Smith and F. Shortland; song, Roses, Mr. W. Smith; quartette, In absence, Messrs. Perkins, Whitworth, Bailey and Shortland; song, Sergeant of the line, Mr. F. Shortland. The accompanists were Miss Nellie Groome and Mr. H. S. Parker. Games, etc., were indulged in. Mrs. T. Cunnington kindly decorated the tables, etc.
