Rushden Echo, 10th November 1911, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mrs. Harriett Whitworth
Startling Affair at Rushden
Woman Found Dead in Her House – Heart Failure

A sudden death occurred at Rushden on Saturday when Mrs. Harriett Whitworth, of 39 Pratt-road, Rushden, died suddenly while in a house by herself.

Mrs. Whitworth, who was 42 years of age, had been in delicate health for a considerable time, and the last two or three months she had been ailing more than ever. She was attended by Dr. Baker.

On Saturday between 3 and 3.30p.m. her mother, Mrs. Lett, left deceased sitting in a chair. Before going out Mrs. Lett inquired if deceased wanted anything, and she replied “No.” When Mrs. Lett came back she found her daughter laying on the hearth, dead. She called assistance and Mrs. Baker, who lives next door, came in. Dr. Owen was sent for, but, of course, could do nothing.

Dr Baker came later and he was able to certify the cause of death—heart failure—so that no inquest was necessary.

The funeral took place yesterday ay the cemetery, the Ven. A. Kitchin officiating. There were many mourners, including Mr. Whitworth (husband), Mrs. Lett (mother), Mr. Lett (brother), and Miss Lett (sisters). There were about ten beautiful floral tributes.
