The Funeral took place on Wednesday of Miss Elsie Evelyn Whitney, aged 21 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Whitney, 8, Higham-road, Rushden. Miss Whitney, who had been ill for six months (being five months confined to bed), died peacefully on Sunday afternoon. The funeral service was held in the cemetery, the Vicar of St. Peter’s (Rev. P. J. Richards) officiating. The chief mourners wer: Mr. and Mrs. William Whitney (father and mother), Mr. William Whitney jun., and Miss Ivy Whitney (brother and sister), Mr. Sidney Whitney and Miss Gladys Whitney (brother and sister), Mrs. J. Bailey and Mrs. T. Clarkson (aunts), Mr. and Mrs. Walter Whitney (uncle and aunt), Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Whitney (uncle and aunt), Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Short (uncle and aunt), Mr. Joseph Whitney and Miss Florence Whitney (uncle and cousin), Mr. and Mrs. J. Horn (cousins), Mr. and Mrs. Whitlock (cousins), Mr. W. Bailey (cousin), Miss Hilda Dickens and Miss Florence Coker (friends). Four girl friends from the deceased’s last work shop (Messrs. Wm. Green and Son) also attended the funeral. Mr. A. Sanders was the undertaker. The coffin, which was of polished elm with nickel fittings, bore the inscription:

There were over 30 beautiful floral wreaths, including a permanent wreath in glass case from the fellow workers at Messrs. William Green and Son, inscribed "Peace, perfect, peace," and another from Mr. Fred Corby and family. Miss Whitney, as shown by the number of wreaths and the tributes of respect, was well-known and respected in Rushden and district, and Mr. and Mrs. Whitney and family desire to sincerely thank all those kind friends who offered expressions of sympathy to them in their sad loss.
