FIRST employee of Mr. John White, for whom he started work in premises in Crabb Street, Rushden, after the 1914/18 war, Mr. John Henry ("Harry") White, 46 Higham Road, Rushden, died yesterday at Northampton General Hospital, aged 61.

He remained at John White's until about three weeks ago, when illness developed, and was on the staff of the clicking department at Newton Road.
Always an active man, he was secretary of the tennis section of the Impregnable Sports Club from its formation up to the end of the 1939-45 war, and more recently was a keen bowls player.
Secretary
For 21 years he was local secretary of the British Boot and Shoe Institution, and was on the committee of the Boot and Shoe Students' Association. He was also for some years an instructor at the Rushden Boot and Shoe School, retiring from this post last year.
Mr. White served in the Army in the First World War, during which he was taken prisoner.
A native of Irthlingborough, he had lived in Rushden since 1918. He leaves a widow and one daughter.
The funeral service will be at St. Mary's Church, Rushden, on Saturday.
