Rushden Echo, 12th July 1918, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mrs. Elizabeth Watts

THE DEATH took place on Sunday at Alfred-street, Rushden, of an aged resident of the town in the person of Mrs. Elizabeth Watts, at the age of 76 years. The deceased lady, who was a native of Kimbolton, had resided in Rushden for upwards of 40 years, and on the death of her husband, the late Mr. Thomas Watts, who predeceased her by six years ago, she went to live, with her eldest daughter, Mrs. F. Clayton, at 4, Alfred-street. She was an ardent Churchwoman, and, until increasing age prevented her, regularly intended the services at St. Mary's and St. Peter's respectively. In her younger days she was a teacher in the Sunday school of the Podington Parish Church whilst residing with her aunt at Farndish. Although for many years the late Mrs. Watts had been practically a cripple, she bore her infirmity with remarkable patience and fortitude. She leaves four sons and five daughters to mourn their loss. Two of the sons are abroad, both being in Canada, and another, Lieut. F. M. Watts, M.M., has been fighting on the Western front, and is now in England recovering from wounds received on the night of February 28th. The eldest son is in Government employ at Rochester. Two daughters, are also in Canada, one other lives at Rugby, and the remaining two at Rushden. The funeral took place yesterday at the cemetery, the first portion of the burial service being conducted at St Mary’s Church by the Rev. H. K. Fry (Vicar of Higham Ferrers) who is a friend of the family. The Rev. P. E. Robson (Rector) assisted in the committal portion of the obsequies. The coffin, of polished oak with brass fittings, bore the inscription:-
