Mr. John Underwood

THE FUNERAL took place on Tuesday last, at the cemetery, of the late Mr. John Underwood, of 10, Pemberton-street, who died on Friday last at the age of 65.  Deceased, who was a shoe hand, subsequently worked for Mr. Sartoris as gardener.  He leaves a widow, six sons, and five daughters.  Two of the sons, Sidney and Walter, are with the Forces in France, while another, Frank, was home on leave in time for the funeral.  The Rev. A. J. Meakin conducted the service in the cemetery chapel.  The mourners were: Mrs. Underwood and Mr. Thomas Underwood (widow and son), Mr. Arthur Underwood and Mrs. Allen (son and daughter), Mr. William Underwood and Mrs. Harlow (son and daughter), Mrs. Bass and Mrs. Bates (daughters), Mr. Harlow and Mrs. Smith (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. Walter Underwood (brother and sister-in-law), Mr. Frank Underwood and Mrs. Ingham (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mr. John Underwood and Mrs. Avis Gates, Northampton (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mrs. Fanny Carter (sister-in-law) and Mrs. Lucy Carter (sister-in-law), Mr. Arthur King and Mrs. Betsy Underwood (nephew and sister-in-law), Mrs. Thomas Underwood and Mrs. Arthur Underwood (daughters-in-law), Miss Lily Underwood (grand-daughter), Mrs. Jack Underwood (whose husband is a prisoner of war), Miss F. Berrill, Mrs. Elizabeth Underwood, Mrs. Fred Webb, Mrs. Reg. Ablett, Mrs. Rose Orton, and Miss Ivy Perkins.

Mrs. Underwood and the family desire to return their sincere thanks for the many expressions of sympathy with them in their bereavement and for the floral tributes sent.  Mr. Arthur Sanders was the undertaker.
