Rushden Echo and Argus, 25th August 1933, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr W Tomlinson

The death occurred on Friday afternoon last at Northampton General Hospital, of Mr William Tomlinson, the well-known confectioner, of High-street, Rushden.

Mr Tomlinson, who had not lately been in the best of health, came home from Bournemouth on Friday of last week, and entered hospital on Sunday, and internal complaint developing rapidly.

Sixty years of age, he was a native of Boston, Lincs., and as a young man became apprenticed to tailoring in Spalding. At the age of 18 he moved to Rushden and for some years was in the employ of Mr Ashby, eventually founding his own business as a tailor in High-street. Later he opened a confectionery branch, untimately giving up the tailoring.

During the few years when Rushden had a Chamber of Trade, Mr Tomlinson was one of the keenest committee members. He enjoyed a game of bowls and was a popular member of the Spencer Park B.C.

Much sympathy will be felt for the widow and the only daughter, Miss Doreen Tomlinson.

The funeral took place at Finedon on Monday, the Rev P B Spriggs, Vicar of St Peter’s, Rushden, conducting a service at the cemetery.
