Rushden Echo, 4th January 1918, transcribed by Gill Hollis
Mr. George Tiney

OCTAGENARIAN’S DEATH – The death took place yesterday week at 4, Bedford-road Cottages, of an aged resident of the town in the person of Mr. George Tiney, aged 83 years.  The deceased, who was a native of Woodford, had resided in Rushden for the greater part of his life, and was well known throughout the town.  His wife predeceased him 14 years ago.  He was an old age pensioner, and until he was 70 years of age he followed his employment in the staple industry, having been employed for many years by Messrs. John Cave & Sons, Ltd.  He was also employed for a considerable time with Messrs. Wm. Green & Sons.  He was a wonderful man for his age, most of his faculties being unimpaired, and in fine weather he never missed going out.  He leaves three sons and five daughters to mourn their loss.  Two sons are abroad, one being in Canada and the other in the West Indies.  Another son, Pte. A. Tiney, has served in the present war and lost his leg through wounds sustained at Ypres.  The funeral took place on Monday at the cemetery, the Rev. R. C. Law, A.T.S., officiating.  The coffin was of polished elm with brass fittings, and bore the inscription:-

GEORGE TINEY
Died December 27th, 1917
Aged 83 years

The mourners were: Mr. Arthur Tiney (son) and Mrs. T. Woodhams (daughter), Mrs. H. Sale (daughter) and Mrs. J. Sinfield (daughter), Mr. F. Tiney (brother) and Mrs. W. Smart (sister-in-law), and Mrs. A. Tiney (daughter-in-law).  Mr. Arthur Sanders was the undertaker.  Several beautiful floral tributes were placed on the grave.
