Impressive Funeral At Rushden
The Late Mr. Cecil Tew
A Co-operative Society Employee
The funeral of the late Mr. George Cecil Tew, formerly grocery branch manager for the Rushden Industrial Co-operative Society, whose death was recorded in our last issue, took place on Monday at the Cemetery, amidst manifest signs of sympathy and respect. The Rev. P. E. Robson (Rector) conducted the obsequies in the unavoidable absence through illness of the Vicar of St. Peter’s (Rev. A. J. Meakin). The coffin, of polished elm, with brass fittings, bore the inscription:-
GEORGE CECIL TEW
Died October 31st, 1918.
Aged 35 years.
The mourners comprised: Mrs. G. C. Tew (widow) and Mr. James Wood (father-in-law), Mr. W. Wood (brother-in-law), Mr. J. Bailey, of Cranford (cousin) and Mrs. Twelvetree, of Higham Ferrers – representing Mrs. W. Wood (sister-in-law), who was prevented from attending through illness – Mr. W. Wrighton (cousin) and Mrs. Clayton (aunt), Mr. J. Wrighton (cousin) and Mr. C. Firth, of Desborough (friend). There also followed, as representing the Co-operative Society), Mr. G. W. Coles, J.P. (president), Mr. W. J. Cure (manager), Mr. T. E. Wigginton (secretary), and the committee and employees, Mr. F. Pentelow (representing the Raunds Co-operative Society employees). First-class Sergt. A. Prigmore and Mr. A. Ablett represented the Rushden Corps St. John Ambulance Association, of which deceased was a member, and the bearers comprised Messrs. W. H. Marriott, W. Jacock, H. Baines, B. Bierton, A. Prigmore, and J. Allen. Mr. T. Swindall was the undertaker. A number of beautiful floral tributes were placed on the grave.
