The death occurred on Wednesday week, at the home of his daughter in Winchester-road, Rushden, of Mr Charles Smith, who resided at Knotting, Beds., until the death of his wife six years ago. The deceased was a respected resident of the village, where he was born, and where he worked for the greater part of his life at the manor Farm. Many years ago, he held the County Championship for ploughing four years in succession. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, the Rector, the Rev J W Weldon Davis officiating at a service at the Parish Church. The coffin bore the inscription: “Charles Smith, aged 80 years.” The principal mourners were Mr and Mrs Barnett (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs A H Smith (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs C E Smith (son and daughter-in-law), Mrs H Seekings and Mrs Saxby (daughters), Mr and Mrs C Smith (brother and sister-in-law), Mr and Mrs S Smith (brother and sister-in-law), Mr Jack and Mr Arthur Hale (brothers-in-law), Mrs J and Mrs A Hale (sisters-in-law), Miss Hodby (cousin), and Mrs Campion and Mr J Campion, Manor Farm.
