Geoffrey George Smart

The funeral of Geoffrey George Smart, of 49 Oakley-road, Rushden, whose death occurred tragically on Saturday, was held on Wednesday afternoon, the service being conducted in St Peter’s Church by the Rev Edwin Hirst.

Geoffrey Smart received the latter part of his education at Wellingborough School, winning a County scholarship at the age of ten. For 18 months he had been an employee of Messrs A Allebone and Sons Ltd., working under his father in the lasting dept. He was also a member of the Rushden A.T.C. Company, and six fellow cadets attended the funeral as a guard of honour.

The mourners were: Mr and Mrs H Smart (father and mother), Cpl S V Smart, R.A.F., and Mrs Smart (brother and sister-in-law), Mr and Mrs L Ruff (uncle and aunt), Misses C and M Line, Wellingborough (friends), Mr and Mrs B Moore (friends). Mr J Sharpe and Mr J Panter represented Messrs A Allebone and Sons.

During the funeral period the employees of Messrs Allebone ceased work, and all stood outside as the coffin passed the factory.

Mr L Clark carried out the funeral arrangements.
