Mr. James Sargent

BEREAVEMENT—We regret to record the death of Mr. James Sargent, of Duck-street, who died on Saturday after a long illness. The deceased who was 72 years of age, was a native of the town and was highly respected. He was at one time a cab proprietor, and in this capacity was exceedingly well known to a large number in the county. Mr. Sargent was connected with the Baptist Church, where on Sunday the choir rendered "What are these?" and "O rest in the Lord" in the deceased’s memory. There are two sons and two daughters, all of whom are married, left to mourn their loss. The funeral took place on Tuesday, amid many signs of sympathy ami respect. The Rev. H. J. Horn conducted the service. The coffin was of polished elm with brass fittings, and bore the inscription:—

"James Sargent, died May 9th, 1914, aged 72 years."

The mourners were:—Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sargent, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sargent (sons and daughters-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Pinkstone (daughter and brother-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Jackson (daughter and brother-in-law), Mr. John Sargent (brother), Mrs. Harris (niece), Mrs. Gates (housekeeper), Mr. James Knight (friend), Mrs. Brightwell (sister-in-law), Mr. Ernest Brightwell (nephew), Mr. and Mrs. Brooks (niece and nephew), Mr. James Brightwell, and Mrs. Rands. The wreaths were:—From each of the sons and daughters; his grandson and grand-daughter (spray); Mr. and Mrs. John Sargent; Mrs. Harris; Herbert and Willie Sargent (cousins); Mrs. Gates and daughter; Mrs. James Brightwell and family; Mr. James Knight; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sargent and family; Mr. and Mrs. Blunt; Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Knight; Mr. Bright; and one from the Rushden Town and Cricket Club members. The undertaker was Mr. T. Swindall.
