Mr. Charles Robinson
Funeral of Rushden Newsagent


Representatives of the newspaper trade were present at the funeral of Mr. Charles Robinson, the Rushden newsagent, of 79, Wellingborough Road, which took place at St. Mary’s Church, Rushden, on Friday afternoon.

Mr. Robinson died on Wednesday, at the age of 69. He was a member of one of Rushden’s oldest families, and was born at No. 15, High Street, not far from the premises where he was in business as a newsagent for many years.

In recent years, the business which Mr. Robinson started in a small thatched cottage, has been run as a company with Mr. Robinson as managing director. A member of the Rushden, Higham Ferrers and District Chamber of Trade, Mr. Robinson was very well known in the town.

Family mourners were: Mrs. M. J. Robinson (widow), Mr. and Mrs. C. Robinson (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. W. Childs (son-in-law and daughter), Master Tony Robinson (grandson), Mrs. A. Deighton (sister), Mr. G. Robinson (brother), Mr. and Mrs. R. Robinson (nephew and niece), Mrs. Gates (cousin), Mr. and Mrs. E. Marlow (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mr. A. Marlow (brother-in-law), Mr. P. Cuthbert (brother-in-law), Mrs. T. Bunning (niece), Nurse Baxter (friend), and Miss A. Litchfield (friend), Mr. Haynes and Mr. Muxlow (friends).

Members of the staff of the shop attending the service were Miss M. Tyler, Miss R. Robinson, Mrs. J. Hobbs, Mrs. E. Randall and M. C. Bryant.

Also present were Mr. F. A. Cooper (general manager, Northamptonshire Newspapers, Ltd.), Miss B. Cooke (“Evening Telegraph” and “Rushden Echo and Argus”), and Mr. F. W. Fisher (circulation manager, “Chronicle and Echo,” Northampton).

Mr. Plummer (Daily Express”) and Mr. Belson (“News Chronicle”), Mr. Simon (Simon Bros., London), Mr. Jones (Messrs. Crawford Jones and Son, Wellingborough).

Mr. M. J. Parker represented the Wellingborough and Rushden Newsagents’ Federation.

Wreaths were received from the London Daily Circulation Managers’ Committee, N.P.A., Wellingborough and District Retail Newsagents, Rushden Retail Newsagents, Rushden Athletic Club, Messrs. H. Adams and Co., Ltd., Wellingborough, Messrs. Crawford Jones, Ltd., Wellingborough, the staff of the shop, and newsboys and girls.
