Rushden Echo, 6th April 1923, transcribed by Kay Collins
The Late Mrs. Annie Rice
Impressive Funeral at Rushden
Tributes of Respect

As reported in last week's Rushden Echo, the most painful and distressing death took place suddenly of Mrs. Annie Rice, at her residence, Albion-place, Rushden, on Monday, March 26th. She had suffered for a long time, and Drs. Owen and Davies both attended her at different periods. Lately she gave no cause for any special anxiety to those at home. She was known by all to be a most patient, loving, and devoted mother; she was of the sweetest of dispositions, and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She leaves three sons and nine daughters to mourn.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, March 28th, the first part of the service being conducted by the Rev. J. A. Sutherland in the Park-road Baptist Church.

The chief mourners were: Mr. Frank Rice (son), Mrs. W. J. Godfrey (daughter), Mr. Ralph Rice (son), Mrs. T. H. Bamforth, of London (daughter), Mr. Harry Rice, Mrs. A. Loake (daughter), Mrs. A. C. Mayes, of Leicester, Miss May Rice (daughters), Mrs. Wm. Pearson, of Leicester, Miss Ada Rice (daughters), Mrs. W. Peck (daughter, Mr. C. Patenall (brother), Mrs. H. Rice (daughter-in-law), Mr. H. Patenall, of Northampton (brother), Mr. W. J. Godfrey (son-in-law), Mrs. Middleton (aunt), Mr. A. C. Mayes, Mr. Wm. Pearson (sons-in-law, Mr. W. Peck (son-in-law), and Mr. G. [a list of wreaths follows]

The coffin, of polished oak with brass fittings, bore the inscription:
