Rushden Echo, 30th June 1916, transcribed by Gill Hollis

Mr. William Reynolds

The death took place on Saturday at 3 Beaconsfield-terrace, of Mr. William Reynolds at the ripe old age of 77 years.  The deceased gentleman, who was a native of Harrold, had resided in this district for quite thirty years, and was well known throughout the town. He was a wonderful old gentleman, his eyesight being good, and his hearing keen right up to the end. He continued at his employment with Messrs. Jas. Hyde, Ltd., until a fortnight ago when he was taken ill with influenza, although as recently as last Sunday week he attended the morning service at Zion Baptist Chapel where he had been a member since the foundation of the cause. Prior to that he was a member of Succoth Baptist Chapel from the time of his settling in Rushden. When he returned from chapel last Sunday week he complained of feeling cold, and was advised to go to bed. He retired to his room after dinner on Sunday, but on Tuesday, as there was no improvement in his condition, the doctor was called in. However, he gradually became worse, and suffered much pain, but on Saturday about 6.30 p.m. the end came peacefully. His wife predeceased him eleven years ago. He leaves four sons and one daughter. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon in the cemetery, Mr. Gascoigne (Wellingborough) conducting the service both in the cemetery chapel and at the graveside. The coffin of polished elm with brass fittings bore the inscription:-
