Rushden Echo, 1st February 1918
Mrs. Rae

The death took place suddenly at Bedford Hospital on Saturday of Mrs. Rae, wife of Mr. William Rae, of Park-road.  The deceased lady has been suffering for some time past from cancer of the breast, and was recently advised to undergo an operation.  She left home last Saturday week to enter Bedford Hospital for this purpose, and underwent the operation last Tuesday week.  Apparently the operation was successful, and she appeared to be making satisfactory progress until Saturday morning, when she had a relapse and passed peacefully away at 6.40 p.m. the same day.  Her husband and her son (Mr. Fred Rae) were at the bedside at the time of her death, the former having gone to Bedford to see his wife on Saturday morning without any knowledge that her end was so near.  One other son, Mr. James Rae, is serving with the Colours.  Much sympathy is felt with Mr. Wm. Rae in the grievous blow he has sustained. The late Mrs. Rae, who was a native of Shefford, Beds., had resided in Rushden ever since her marriage about 30 years ago.
