An aged resident of the town passed away at 32, Station-road, in the person of Mrs Mary Prigmore, widow of the late Mr John Prigmore, of Carlton, Beds, who predeceased her 21 years ago.
The deceased, who was 94 years of age, was the mother of First-class Sergt A Prigmore, of the Rushden St John Ambulance Corps, with who she was residing at the time of her death. Death was entirely due to senile decay, and on the Monday prior to her death she was apparently in her usual health, taking her meals with the family. After retiring on Monday night she never again rose from her bed, and, becoming weaker and weaker, she passed peacefully away at 7.30pm last Friday. She leaves two sons, twenty grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren to mourn their loss. Two sons and two daughters predeceased her, one of the former, who was 73 years of age at the time of his death, passing away last January at Wellingborough.
The late Mrs Prigmore was a wonderful old lady, being in possession of most of her faculties to the last. She could hear well, and could read the newspaper, and up to two years ago, kept herself busily engaged making pillow-lace, by which means she supplemented her old age pension.
The funeral took place on Tuesday at the cemetery, the Rev C J Keeler officiating. The coffin, of polished elm with brass fittings, bore the inscription:-
Mary Prigmore
Died February 16th 1917
Aged 94 years.
The mourners comprised: Mr and Mrs A Prigmore (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs G Prigmore of London (son and daughter-in-law), Mr Edgar Prigmore (grandson), Mrs W Prigmore (daughter-in-law), Mesdames F Hooper, W Charles, B Panter and Miss Ada Prigmore (granddaughters), and Mrs W Mole (friend). A number of beautiful wreaths were placed on the grave. Mr T Swindall was the undertaker.
