Rushden Echo & Argus, 10th August 1934, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mrs Harriet Packwood

The death of Mrs Harriet Packwood, widow of the late Mr William Packwood, builder and contractor, of Newton-road, Rushden, occurred on Sunday morning at Northampton General Hospital.

Mrs Packwood, who was in her 80th year, was a native of Hampshire. Her maiden name was Warner, and for many years she served the late Mrs Urban Sartoris as housekeeper at Rushden Hall.

Some 26 years ago, on retiring from this responsible position, in which she had earned the warm esteem of the Sartoris family, she married Mr William Packwood, as his second wife.

Like her husband, who represented one of the oldest Rushden families, she was a faithful attendant and supporter of St Mary’s Church.

Mrs Packwood had been admitted to Northampton Hospital for an operation which was performed last Wednesday.

The funeral took place at Rushden on Wednesday, the Rev Travers S Stoney conducting a service at St Mary’s Church.

The mourners included Mr and Mrs William C Packwood (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs C Sharp, Mr and Mrs T Packwood, Mr and Mrs E Packwood (brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law), Mr and Mrs R Robinson, Mrs Smith, Brighton, Miss L Steele, Miss S Taylor, Towcester, and Mrs Lewin, Geddington (friends).

Messrs Whittington and Tomlin carried out the arrangements.
