Death of a Higham Bellringer
Impressive Funeral at Rushden - Formerly of Irthlingborough

The death of Mr. William Vernon Newman, of Harborough-road, Rushden, took place in the early hours of Saturday morning. Deceased had been suffering from cancer, and had not been to work since last Christmas, having practically a twelve months illness. He was very widely known in bell-ringing circles, and up to last Christmas he was one of the bell-ringers at Higham Ferrers Church. His interest in this work was very great.

Deceased was born in Middlesex, but lived most of his life at Irthlingborough, the last ten years being spent in Rushden. Deceased, aged 33, was married and leaves a wife, but no children. Up to last Christmas he worked for Mr. Fred Corby, currier.

The Funeral took place in Rushden Cemetery on Tuesday, the Rev. E. E. Braley officiating.

Higham and Irthlingborough bellringers were present, and also ringers from other places.

A peal on the handbells was rung over the grave.
