Rushden Echo, 3rd May, 1918
Clara Ellen Newman

The death took place on Tuesday of Mrs. Newman, aged 45, wife of Mr. William Newman, of Essex-road, Rushden.  Deceased had, during the last few years, been a victim of consumption, and she gradually grew weaker, passing away at 1.35 p.m.  She leaves a husband and four daughters.  A native of Irthlingborough, she had lived in Rushden for the last 20 years.  She was the daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. Hooton, of Irthlingborough.  The funeral took place this (Friday) afternoon at the Cemetery at three o’clock, the Rector (Rev. P. E. Robson) officiating.  The inscription on the coffin was:-

CLARA ELLEN NEWMAN.
Died April 30th, 1918.
Aged 45 years.

The mourners were: Mr. Newman (husband), Misses Mildred and Kathleen Newman (daughters), Messrs. Harry and J. Hooton (brothers), Mrs. Boswell, of Manchester (sister), Mrs. Chas. Newman and Miss Newman (sisters-in-law), Mrs. Hales (sister-in-law), Mr. F. Denton (brother-in-law), Miss C. Denton (niece), Mrs. H. Hooton (sister-in-law).
