Mrs. Ruth Newell
Death of an Old Inhabitant


Mrs. Ruth Newell, wife of Mr. Zerah Newell, who was well known and highly respected in Rushden, passed away at her home, 34, Portland Road, on Friday at the age of 77. Mrs. Newell had been an invalid for a number of years, death resulting from senile decay. She and her husband were natives in Irthlingborough. They were married 54 years ago and came to live at Rushden in 1894. They were both ardent supporters of the Succoth Baptist Chapel with which cause they had been associated for nearly 60 years. Mr. Newell for many years had been a trustee, deacon and Sunday School Superintendent of the Rushden Succoth chapel. At the funeral, which took place at the cemetery on Monday Mr. J. Bennett minister of the Abington Square Chapel, Northampton officiated.

The mourners were Mr. Z. Newell (husband), Mrs. A. E. Brown (daughter), Mr. J. Newell, of Irthlingborough (son), Mrs. H. Desborough, of Southport (daughter), Mr. Joseph Newell (son), Mrs. W. Hobbs, of Sandbach (daughter), Mr. A. E. Brown (son in law), Mrs. G. Roberts of Wellingborough (sister), Mr. W. Hobbs (son-in-law), Mrs. E. Cuthbert, of Irthlingborough (sister), Mrs. J. Newell (daughter-in-law), Mr. T. H. Martin (son-in-law), Mrs. E. Sugars, Mr. W. Brown, Mrs. G. Clayton, Mr. S. Brown (grandchildren), Mrs. Reynolds, Mrs. Max Stringer (nieces), Mrs. H. Hobbs and Mrs. J. Martin (friends). By request there were no flowers. Messrs. Whittington and Tomlin were the undertakers. Mr. Z. Newell and family ask all friends to accept this expression of sincere thanks for the many and kindly messages of sympathy sent to them in their great bereavement.
