Rushden Echo and Argus, 3rd October 1948, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr. Clarence Neal

Taken ill while at work on Saturday evening, Mr. Clarence Neal, of 83, Carnegie-street, Rushden, a foreman in the employ of Messrs. Fred Corby, curriers, died at his home less than two hours later.

Mr. Neal was 30 years of age. On Friday evening he complained of feeling unwell, but he went to work as on Saturday. At 10.45, however, he was compelled to go home, and his death occurred at 12.20 while he was eating his dinner in bed. As he had never been attended by a doctor the facts were reported to the Northants Coroner, but no inquest was held.

Mr. Neal was born in Rushden and served Messrs. Fred Corby for most of the time since leaving school. Four of his five brothers are also in the firm’s employ.

He joined the Rushden Home Guard when the local unit was formed, and had never missed a parade. He was also a keen member of Messrs. Corby's newly-formed angling club and of the Rushden Conservative Club. A widow is left but there are no children.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, the service at the house being conducted by the Rev. R. Percy Jones, misiter of the Park-road Baptist Church.

The principal mourners were Mrs. C. Neal and Mr. Neal (widow and father), Mrs. Neal and Mr. G. Neal (mother and brother), Mr. and Mrs. G. Clarke (father-in-law and mother-in-law), Mrs. H. Plummer and Mr. E. Neal (sister and brother), Mrs. W. Bayliss and Mr. C. Neal (sister and brother) Mrs. E. Neal and Mr. R. Neal (sister-in-law and brother), Mr. and Mrs. C. Numerous relatives and friends were at the graveside. Mr. L. Neal (brother) was unable to attend.
