Rushden Echo, 8th March 1918
Mr. James Mee

OBITUARY – On Wednesday, February 27th, Mr. James Mee, after a prolonged affliction of seven years, passed away at the age of 69 years.  He was a native of Harrold, where he lived until the year 1889, when he removed with his family to Rushden.  He was by trade a butcher, but for a number of years was employed by Mr. Fredk. Corby, currier, of Rushden.  Owing to his ill-health, he has been unable to follow his occupation since the year 1911.  During his affliction he has displayed remarkable fortitude and patience, having never been heard to murmur or complain.  He has also shown some intellectual gift in the writing of poetry, which has manifested the bent of his mind and illuminated the strength of his faith in the purpose of life.  He was a member of the Succoth Baptist Chapel, and for some years was a teacher in the Sunday school.  The late Mr. Mee leaves a widow, two sons, and a daughter.  The funeral took place on Monday afternoon last at the Cemetery, Mr. James Bennett officiating.  The coffin, of polished elm, with heavy brass fittings, bore the inscription:-

The mourners were: Mrs. Mee (widow), Mr. W. G. Mee (son), Mr. H. J. Mee (son), Miss M. Mee (daughter), Mr. S. Mee (brother), Mrs. Joseph Gayton, of Harrold (sister), Mrs. S.
