Widow of Mr. Robert Marriott, the well known builder, Mrs. Betty Marriott, College House, Higham Ferrers, died at her home on Tuesday – exactly twelve months after the death of her husband. Mrs. Marriott, who was 82, had been in ill health during the last four months. A daughter of the late Mr. William Corby, she was born at Wellingborough and lived there until her marriage, afterwards residing for many years at Rushden, where Mr. Marriott founded the business now known as Robert Marriott Ltd. Mr. and Mrs. Marriott at one time occupied Farm House in High Street, Rushden. They moved to Higham Ferrers several years ago and had celebrated their golden wedding. Mrs. Marriott maintained a deep devotion to Rushden St. Peter’s Church, where for many years she was active in many phases of the work, especially the Mother’s Union. She and her husband made several voyages to Canada in order to visit two of their sons and a daughter. Of the ten children of the marriage eight survive. They are Mr. James Marriott (Canada), Mr. Alan Marriott, Mrs. Worsley (who came from Canada to nurse Mrs. Marriott in her illness), Mrs. Holland (Budleigh Salterton), Col. Jack Marriott, Mr. Bert Marriott (Canada), Mrs. Turney (Quinton Green), and Mrs. R. Meakin (Long Clawson, near Nuneaton).
