Ellen Margetts
widow of John Margetts

Ellen was born in Nobottle, Brington, Northants, in about 1842. About 1863 she married John Margetts, and by 1871 they were living in Rushden and had three children; Frederick John aged 7, and Emma Elizabeth and Henry John both aged 5. The two boys died, Henry in 1882 and Frederick in 1884. When John died in 1892, Ellen and Emma moved to 3 Crabb Street. Emma was a teacher at the Board School.

Obituary
The death took place on October 27th, at 3 Crabb-street, Rushden, of a well-known and highly respected resident of the town, in the person of Mrs Ellen Margetts, widow of the late Mr John Margetts, who predeceased her 25 years ago. The late Mrs Margetts, who was 75 years of age, had resided in Rushden for nearly 60 years. She leaves one daughter to mourn her loss. The funeral took place yesterday week in the burial ground of the Old Baptist Chapel, the first portion of the obsequies being conducted at the deceased’s residence by the Rev R C Law, who also officiated at the graveside. The coffin, which was of polished oak, bore the inscription:-

Ellen Margetts
Died October 27th 1917
Aged 75 years.

A number of beautiful floral tributes were placed on the grave. Mr T Swindall was the undertaker. This was Mr Law’s first funeral at Rushden.
