Rushden Echo, 14th April 1916, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mrs. Maddock
Rushden Vocalist’s Death – A Victim to Tuberculosis

We regret to record the death of Mrs. Maddock (formerly Miss Florence Kate Haddon) wife of the Mr. William Maddock, of Rushden, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Haddon, of 8 Robinson-road, Rushden. Deceased, who was only 28 years of age, has been suffering from tuberculosis for two years. Eight or nine weeks ago she came to live with her mother in Robinson-road, having formerly lived in Church-parade, Rushden, and three weeks ago she had a turn for the worse, being compelled to remain indoors. Death followed rather suddenly on Sunday.

The deceased lady will be mourned by many friends in Rushden. Ever since a little girl, she had belonged to the Park-road Wesleyan Church, being a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. She was a very acceptable soloist, having a very sweet soprano voice.

Two years ago Mrs. Maddock (then Miss Haddon) went away for a period of eight months to Ventnor, Isle of Wight, for treatment. Soon after her return, considerably improved in health, she was married to Mr. W. Maddock, an employee of Messrs. Selwood and Co.

The Funeral

took place yesterday afternoon, the first part of the ceremony being conducted by the Rev. H. S. Southall in the Park-road Wesleyan Church. Mr. Southall also officiated at the Cemetery.

The coffin was of polished elm and bore the inscription:

The chief mourners were: Mrs. G. Haddon (mother), and Mr. W. Maddock (husband), Mrs. J. Parker (grandmother), and Mr. G.
