Death at Rushden of Mr John Lymage – Tributes at the Funeral

Following a long illness, the death occurred on Sunday of Mr John Lymage, aged 65, of Homeleigh, St Crispin Estate, Rushden.

A servant of the L.N.W. Railway Company for 35 years, Mr Lymage’s last appointment was at Ditchford, and a few months after he retired three years ago the little station of Ditchford on the Northampton-Peterborough line was closed for passenger service. Mr Lymage was a native of Buckden, Hunts. He was a man of quiet tastes and never took part in public affairs. The widow and one daughter are left. Twelve months ago Mr Lymage lost a son by death, and his deep grief led to a breakdown in health. Last December he was found to be suffering from a growth, and, though a specialist was consulted, little hope of recovery could be held out. Dr Greenfield rendered skilled service throughout Mr Lymage’s illness.

The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, a service being held in the parish church, Irthlingborough, and the interment being in the family grave in Irthlingborough Cemetery. The mourners were Mrs Lymage and Mrs Dickens (wife and daughter), Mrs Oakley and Mrs Thompson (sister and niece), Mrs Hull and Mrs Truckell (sister and niece), Mr Dickens and Mrs Ashpole (son-in-law and niece), Mr Adams and Miss Adams, Mr and Mrs Fred Adams, Mr and Mrs Frank Adams (brothers and sisters-in-law, Mrs Adams and Mrs Stock (sister-in-law and niece), and Mr Godson and Mrs Cox (cousins). The coffin was of unpolished oak with silver fittings.

Wreaths were inscribed:

In ever loving memory of a dear husband and father, from his sorrowing wife, daughter, and son-in-law. “To one of the best.”

In loving memory of my dear brother, from Fanny. Fond remembrance of Uncle, from Ada and Fred.

With deepest sympathy, from Mrs E Hall, Ruby, Fred, and Bert.

In loving memory, from Mr and Mrs Dickens, Millie, and Albert.

With seepest sympathy, from Mr and Mrs Simmons and Mr and Mrs Silburn.

With love and sympathy, from Flo and Elsie, Wilstead.

In loving memory, from brother-in-law and niece, Bedford and Wootton.

With deepest sympathy, from your loving sister and niece, London.

With deepest sympathy, from Mr and Mrs Emerton and Mr and Mrs Smith.

With deepest sympathy, from Mr and Mrs Hirons.

With deepest sympathy, from Mr and Mrs Godson, Wellingborough.

With deepest sympathy, from Mr and Mrs Bayes.

With deepest sympathy, from Mr and Mrs Dickens and family, St Crispin House, Wellingborough-road. “After much suffering, rest.”

In loving remembrance of dear uncle, from Ada and Alf.

In loving memory, from Sarah, Ann, Doris, Ivy, and Walter. “Peace, perfect peace. With loved one far away.”

In loving memory of John, from brothers and sisters, Stanwick. “Thy Will be done.”

Mrs Lymage and daughter wish to thank all friends and neighbours for their sympathy and kindness during the long illness of Mr Lymage, for messages of condolence, and for the beautiful floral tributes. Thanks are also specially offered to Dr Greenfield for the great help he rendered to Mr Lymage in his illness.
