Rushden Echo, 4th January 1918, transcribed by Gill Hollis
Mr Levi Linnett

OBITUARY – An aged and well-known native of Rushden passed away last Sunday at 18, Victoria-road, in the person of Mr. Levi Linnett, at the age of 85 years.  The late Mr. Linnett was a brother of Mr. T. W. C. Linnett, a member of the Wellingborough Board of Guardians, and father of Mrs. Whittington, of 75, Queen-street, the only daughter.  Death was due entirely to senile decay, as all his life the late Mr. Linnett had enjoyed good health, and until quite recently he used to take his daily walk.  He was a remarkable man for his age, most of his faculties remaining unimpaired, with the exception of his eyesight, which during the past year or so had been a source of trouble to him.  For many years he regularly attended Succoth Baptist Chapel.  The funeral took place on Wednesday, at the cemetery, the Rev. R. C. Law officiating.  The coffin, of polished elm, with brass fittings, bore the inscription:-

LEVI LINNETT
Died December 30th, 1917
Aged 85 Years

The mourners comprised Mr. and Mrs. E. Whittington (son-in-law and daughter), Mr. and Mrs. John Linnett (brother and sister-in-law), Mrs. S. Linnett (sister-in-law), and Mrs. H. Whittington (granddaughter-in-law).  Mr. T. W. C. Linnett (brother) was unable to attend the funeral through indisposition.  A beautiful wreath from his daughter was placed on the grave.  Messrs. Whittington & Tomlin were the undertakers.
