Rushden Echo, January 18th 1924, transcribed by Kay Collins
Collapse of Mr. G. H. Linnell
Sudden Death at Rushden

The Funeral

The death occurred suddenly and unexpectedly about 8.45p.m. yesterday week, at 13 Manton-road, Rushden, of Mr. George Henry Linnell, aged 48. Mr. Linnell had been suffering from internal pains for a long time, and they had been very severe at different periods. In spite of his illness, Mr. Linnell, with great fortitude, kept at work (at Messrs. Bull & Co.’s) up to the evening of yesterday week. When he got home Mrs. Linnell applied hot dressings, which relieved the pain. After he had had his tea and had washed and shaved, Mr. Linnell, feeling better, walked to and fro across the room. Mrs. Linnell, meantime bust at her household duties, was alarmed to see her husband collapse and fall unconscious. A neighbour was called in, and Mr. H. Dixon and Mr. Smith (of Rushden Ambulance Division) were summoned from the Band Club. Dr. Greenfield was sent for and quickly arrived. The Doctor could only certify that death had taken place. The police were informed of the death and the Coroner was notified, but an inquest was not deemed necessary in view of the doctor’s report. Deceased was a native of Northampton. He and Mrs. Linnell came to Rushden to live about 23 years ago. Besides the widow, deceased leaves one son and three daughters to mourn their loss.

The funeral took place on Monday. [a list of mourners follows]
