The funeral took place on Wednesday of the late Mr Watson Lewis, of 65 High-street South. Who passed away early on Monday morning. Mr Lewis, who was 73 years of age, had been suffering for the past nine months, but only took to his bed a week before he died. A native of the town, he had lived in Rushden all his life. He was a keen member of the Rushden Conservative Club. Until his marriage, he lived in the old thatched cottage which was burnt on Tuesday night. The last time he left his home he went to look at the smithy behind the cottage, and on his return went straight to be. He was the last of his family. His father, Mr Charles Lewis, gave all his sons Christian names beginning with the letter "W." Besides Watson Lewis, there was William, Walter, Wright, Wyman, Wilfred, and Wilheim, all of whom have passed away. The Rector (the Rev Travers S Stoney) conducted the service at Rushden Parish Church and at the cemetery, assisted by the Rev G Brooke-Hunt. Mr A Lewis, Higham Ferrers (son), Mrs Linford, Bedford, and Mrs J Abbott, Woking (daughters), were unable to attend.
