Rushden Echo, 29th March 1918
Death of Mrs. S. Lantaff
Sad Bereavement at Rushden
From Diphtheria and Heart Weakness

The death took place on Saturday morning at 23, East-grove, Rushden, of Mrs. Sarah Lantaff, wife of Mr. Samuel Lantaff, at the age of 45 years.  The deceased lady lost her only son Hubert, who was formerly on the “Rushden Echo” staff, about 6½ years ago, and had never really recovered from the shock.  For the past four months she had had very indifferent health, and a fortnight ago she was taken worse and was compelled to take to her bed.  Last Wednesday week the doctor diagnosed diphtheria, and this disease, coupled with inherent heart weakness, culminated in her death.  She leaves a husband to mourn her loss.

The late Mrs. Lantaff was a member of the Park-road Wesleyan Church, and, until failing health prevented her, regularly attended the services there, taking also an active interest in the work of the church as collector for foreign missions and as a magazine distributor.  She was also a member of the Rushden Women’s Adult School.  The deceased, who was a native of Finedon, had resided in Rushden for 21 years.

The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon.  The first portion of the service took place at the Park-road Wesleyan Church, the Rev. H. Shaw officiating.  The mourners were: Mr. Lantaff (husband), Mr. and Mrs. Haseldine, Finedon (father and mother), Mr. and Mrs. Lyford, Stanwick Lodge (brother-in-law and sister), Mr. and Mrs. Pell, Finedon (brother-in-law and sister), Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brawn, Rushden (brother-in-law and sister), Miss Mabel Pell, Finedon (niece), Mr. Wm. Timpson, Earls Barton (uncle).  The Rev. H. Shaw officiated at the graveside in the Cemetery.  Mr. Lantaff desires to return his grateful thanks to the many friends for their expressions of sympathy with him in his sore bereavement.
