The Argus, 11th August 1916, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr. John Ladds

We deeply regret to record the death of one of Rushden’s most highly respected sons, Mr. John Ladds, of Wellingborough-road, Rushden. The deceased gentleman passed away, after three months’ illness patiently borne, on Saturday about 10.30pm, at the ripe age of 79 years. The late Mr. Ladds lived a quiet, unostentatious life, taking no prominent part in the public of his native place. He was deeply interested in the Succoth Chapel, of which he was one of the leaders. He leaves three sons and three daughters to mourn their great loss. He was the eldest son of Mr. B. Ladds, shoe manufacturer, and all the children are married with the exception of the youngest daughter.

The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon, amid many signs of the deepest sympathy and respect. The family mourners were: Mr. B. Ladds and Miss Ladds (son and daughter), Mr. Joseph Ladds and Mrs. M. Stringer (son and daughter), Mr. John Ladds and Mrs F Reynolds (son and daughter), Mrs. B. Ladds and Mr. M. Stringer (daughter-in-law and son-in-law), Mr. F. Reynolds and Mrs. John Ladds (son-in-law and daughter-in-law), Mr. Frank Stringer and Mr. Horace Ladds (grandsons).
