Mr James Knight

Interment—Briefly announced in our last issue, the death occurred on the evening of yesterday week, at Northampton Hospital, of Mr James Knight, aged 63, the result of pneumonia and complications. Mr Knight has occupied premises at the corner of Moor-road and Dayton-street many years ago, and after a few years elsewhere the family returned to the same house. The business is that of pork butchers (Mr F Knight, son of the deceased, having a branch shop in Cromwell-road). Mr J Knight also attended Bedford, Wellingborough, Kettering, and other local markets ad a dealer. He had long held the post of sidesman and member of the Christian Endeavour at the Wellingborough-road Wesleyan Reform Mission, of which he had been a member for 30 years and one of the most valued workers in all sorts of activities. His was the quiet service not in the limelight, but none the less effective. Mr Knight was a son of the late Mr Edwin Knight and a brother of the late Mr Charles E Knight. The interment took place on Monday, the Rev E E Bromage officiating, assisted by the Rev G Wright, formerly of Wellingborough. The first part of the service, conducted in the Mission Hall, weas largely attended. Mr W J F Tassell accompanying at the organ, the congregation sang the hymns “Jesu, Lover of my soul”, and “Rock of Ages”. As the cortege left, Mr Tassell played “O rest in the Lord” and the “Dead March”. Mr Bromage conducted the service in church, and Mr Wright read the committal service at the graveside.

The mourners were Mrs J Knight (widow), Mr F Knight (son), Mrs Mundin, of Northampton, Miss A Knight, Mrs E C Prigmore, Miss M Knight (daughters), Mr Harry Knight, of Maidstone (brother), Mr E J Mundin (son-in-law), Mr E C Prigmore (son-in-law), Mr Frank Knight (nephew), Mr Fred Knight J.P. (uncle), Mr and Mrs George Coles (cousins), and Mr R A Wheeler (firend). Mrs Harry Knight and Mr John Knight were prevented from attending through indisposition. Messrs John Spencer J.P., J S Clipson and J Cowley represented the Mission, and the Rushden Master Butchers’ Association and allied trades were represented by Messrs E Hollis, W Russell and E Perkins (Addington). Mr G Bayes, Mr E Wrighton, Mr G Chettle, and other friends were also present. Messrs T Swindall and Sons carried out the funeral arrangements.
