Rushden Echo, 11th October 1940, transcribed by Kay Collins
Miss Annie Knight, Rushden

A well-known and respected church worker in Rushden, Miss Annie Knight, of 32, Albion-place, passed away early on Monday morning.

Miss Knight, who was about 73 years of age, was found by a lodger, Mrs E Summerfield, at 6.30 on Monday morning, lying dead in her chair. She had been ill for more than a fortnight, and the nature of her illness made it impossible for her to lie down. For the last few days, therefore, she had been sleeping in her chair in a downstairs room. A candle a few inches long was burning beside her, and the fire was alight. Dr R W Davies was called, and the East Northants Coroner, Mr J Cairns Parker, who was informed, deemed an inquest unnecessary.

Miss Knight had lived in Albion-place for about fourteen years, and during that time she had been active in the work at St Mary’s Church.

The Rev E A Green conducted the funeral service at St Mary’s Church on Wednesday afternoon, and the hymn “Jesu, lover of my soul” was sung.

The chief mourners were Mr F R Love, Mr L E Love, Mr C H Love (nephews), Mrs R Bird, Mrs Summerfield, and Mrs Paikes, of Yelden.

Mr Fred Bayes, of Rushden, was the undertaker.
