The circumstances attending the disappearance of Mr. John Kent, general dealer, of Duck-street, Rushden, have now been cleared up. By trade a house decorator, painter, and paper-hanger, Mr. Kent followed his employment up to the time he took over the Duck-street shop, early this year. On Monday, May 3rd, he got up somewhat earlier than usual, left a note on the table to say that he would be back in an hour, and then went out. As he did not return during the day, inquiries were made, with the result than a man answering to the description of Mr. Kent had been seen at Luton.
Last Tuesday news reached Rushden that the body of a man had been recovered form the River Thames at The Tower Wharf, London, and it was thought to be that of Mr. Kent. The body had apparently been in the river about ten days. Mr. Reginald Welsford, a son-in-law of Mr. Kent, went up to Stepney on Tuesday and had no difficulty whatever in identifying Mr. Kent’s clothing and other personal property.
The deceased had been suffering severely from the after-effects of influenza.
