Rushden Echo, 23rd June 1916, transcribed by Gill Hollis

Miss Mabel Emma James

The death took place on Sunday last at 24 Glassbrook-road, of Miss Mabel Emma James, aged eight years, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. James. The little girl had been ill upwards of eleven months, and had been a great sufferer, so that the end came as a happy release. In spite of her long illness the little sufferer remained remarkably bright and patient until the end. She attended St. Peter's Sunday school, and was beloved by her fellow scholars and by all who knew her. The funeral took place on Wednesday at the cemetery and was conducted by the Rev. P. J. Richards. The coffin bore the inscription:

MABEL EMMA JAMES.
Died June 18th, 1916,
Aged 8 years.

The mourners were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. H. James (father and mother), Mr. J. James (brother), and Miss L. James (sister), Mr. Cyril James (brother) and Miss Mabel James (aunt), Mr. and Mrs. W. James, of Finedon (uncle and aunt). A number of wreaths were placed on the grave, including a beautiful floral cross from the Vicar and scholars of St. Peter's Sunday school, and another from the teachers and scholars of Alfred-street Council Schools.  Mr. T. Swindall was the undertaker. Mr. and Mrs. James and family desire to express sincere thanks for the many kind expressions of sympathy they have received in their great bereavement.
